Education Accountability Act (H.4662) on Senate Calendar
Senator Ryberg (Aiken) removed his minority report [please contact him with a “thank you”] from the Education Accountability Act Reform Bill (H.4662). The Senate placed H.4662 on the calendar for tomorrow, May 15, 2008.

No Child Left Behind
U.S. Secretary of Education Margaret Spellings on April 22 announced that she is issuing proposed regulations under the No Child Left Behind Act. These proposed regulations are complex (136 pages) and include regulatory changes in 20 aspects of the No Child Left Behind law and policies.

Minimally Adequate
A grassroots movement is starting to amend the education clause of the South Carolina Constitution. A petition drive supporting John Matthews’s amendment is underway and is using the Internet to obtain signatures. The web site is www.goodbyeminimallyadequate.com. Individuals can sign the petition online or download hard copies to sign.
