Research

  • Can Teacher Quality Be Effectively Assessed? (Research Brief)
Research from the University of Washington and the Urban Institute presents the first large-scale evidence on whether or not NBPTS certification successfully identifies teachers who will raise student achievement. (Research Brief from Center on Reinventing Public Education 2004).
  • Can Teacher Quality Be Effectively Assessed? (Full Report)
Researchers Dan Goldhaber and Emily Anthony (2004) found that NBPTS certified teachers are more effective than their noncertified counterparts, and that the NBPTS process successfully identifies the more effective teachers among NBPTS applicants. Some variance exists, by grade level and student type.
