Association Committees

The SCEA is seeking members to serve on our state committees.  Below is a listing of the committees along with their descriptors.  If you are interested in serving on a committee, please email your choice to executiveoffice@thescea.org.
The Constitution and Bylaws Committee shall study the constitution, bylaws and standing rules and any amendments proposed thereto as provided in Article XII of the Constitution.  The committee shall submit proposed amendments to the Representative Assembly for final action indicating the committee's recommendations of each proposal.

The Human and Civil Rights Committee shall promote programs to improve interpersonal relationships. Note:  This committee is also in charge of planning the Human and Civil Rights Luncheon as well as accepting nominations for the Walker E. Solomon and Richard W. Riley Awards.

The Legislative Committee shall submit a proposed legislative program to the Executive     Board and then to the Representative Assembly for final approval.  The committee may recommend to the Executive Board plans for the promotion of the legislative program to the South Carolina Legislature and to the public.

The Membership Committee shall devise a statewide plan for the promotion of membership in the United Education Profession. 

The Leadership Training Committee shall promote programs for the improvement of instruction in the public schools; shall urge the involvement of teachers in decisions related to curriculum, textbooks and other media selections, class size, and methods of teaching; and shall promote selective recruitment, appropriate training and education for those seeking professional certification as educators. 

The Educator Rights Committee shall provide assistance by examining legal and administrative issues and by providing activities designed to prevent violation of rights.  The educator rights committee shall review the procedures for providing legal and administrative assistance and make appropriate recommendations regarding criteria and procedures to the Executive Board. 

The Elections Committee shall be responsible for the conduct of the elections, in accordance with the provisions of the Constitution, Bylaws, and Standing Rules for the offices of President, Vice President, District Directors, Directors‑at‑large, NEA Director(s), and state delegates to the NEA Representative Assembly, for any vacancies occurring therein, and any other item on which votes are taken by printed ballots. The elections committee shall be responsible for the supervision of the accreditation and registration of delegates to the Representative Assembly.
