Micro-Credentials

Only The SCEA offers over 175 micro-credentials for recertification that have been created by educators for educators.

School Districts can now grant renewal credits for these courses, which are FREE to members! SCDE recommends a minimum of 12 renewal credits per earned micro-credential.

Only The SCEA offers relevant and meaningful professional learning opportunities that have been approved by The South Carolina Department of Education (SCDE) for licensure renewal. These micro-credentials allow you to learn at your own pace remotely or at school.

Please note, these courses must be approved by your district's professional development coordinator in order to count towards renewal credits. We strongly recommend checking with your PD coordinator before starting a course.

WHAT’S A MICRO-CREDENTIAL?

A micro-credential is a short, competency-based recognition that allows an educator to demonstrate mastery in a particular area. The SCEA micro-credentials are grounded in research and best practice and designed to be:

  • Personalized: You can create your own learning journey, based on your interests and career goals; gaps in your skills; and the specific needs of your students, school, and district.
  • Flexible: You can study when it’s convenient for you, alone or with your peers.
  • Performance-based: Unlike “sit-and-get” certifications, The SCEA micro-credentials are awarded based on demonstrated mastery of the subject matter, not just for showing up.

Our micro-credentials are free for all of our members. To become a member, go to jointhescea.org. Non-members may participate in our micro-credential program, but must pay any associated fees.

Before starting a micro-credential, please check with your district's professional development coordinator to ensure they approve the course for renewal credits.

If they do not approve, please contact Todd Scholl at [email protected].
